Crown is a dental restoration otherwise known as "a cap" which covers the entire tooth. A dental bridge is a multi-unit restoration consisting of a prosthetic tooth/teeth, that is/are suspended in between two natural teeth.

Crowns & bridges remain fixed.

1) Why Is a Dental Crown Needed?

  • To protect and strengthen a root canal-treated tooth from breaking
  • To restore an already broken tooth
  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there arent a lot of teeth left
  • To improve esthetics
  • To cover poorly shaped or severely discoloured teeth
  • To cover a dental implant
  • To restore a fractured tooth

3) What is the procedure for a cap?

  • Initially, we will remove decay and prepare the tooth to the ideal shape for the crown.
  • The amount of the tooth removed will be the same as the thickness of the crown.
  • Once the tooth is shaped, the dentist will take a Scan. We have a trios 3 shape scanner which takes a digital mould of your teeth. It is one of the fastest and most accurate scanners in the world.
  • The digital file will then be emailed to the dental technician, along with an appropriate shade and other information needed for the crown to be made.
  • On your next visit after 4-5 days we fit the final crown, cementing it into place so you have a new,beautiful-looking tooth.

4) Advantage of bridge:

  • Restores your smile
  • Improves chewing
  • Maintains all teeth in place and Prevents shifting of teeth
  • Hence maintaining the facial structure

Disadvantage of Bridge

  • Trimming of adjacent healthy teeth
  • Life span is less than Implants

5) Cost for Crowns and bridges

Cost for Crowns

Depending on the type of Material

  • Metal: Rs 3000 to 4000
  • Porcelain fused metal: Rs 5000 to 6000
  • Full Ceramic/ Zirconia/ Bruxzir: Rs8500 to 10500

Cost for Bridge

Depends on the number of teeth on which the crown is going to be placed. Eg: If one tooth is missing we take support of the adjacent two teeth, thus a unit of three crowns is required.

Depending on the type of Material

  • Metal: Rs 3000 to 4000 each tooth
  • Porcelain fused metal: Rs 5000 to 6000 each tooth
  • Full Ceramic/ Zirconia/ Bruxzir / Emax: Rs 8500 to 10500 each tooth

6) Procedure for Bridge

  • We begin with giving you local anaesthesia if the teeth are not Root canal treated. But if they are Root canal treated anaesthesia is not required in usual cases.
  • Then we start with trimming your tooth according to the cap's size. The amount of tooth's thickness lost is replaced by the cap's thickness.
  • Then we start measuring with our trios 3 scanner giving us the most accurate details and measurements.
  • We send your digital measurements to the lab and inform you when it arrives.
  • This whole procedure takes 2 appointments.
  • 1st appointment goes on for 30 - 45 minutes
  • 2nd appointment takes 15 mins to 30 mins to fix the crown/bridge.
  • Also, the time may vary according to the situation.

7) Time taken for Crown or Bridge

After we send the measurements to the lab, the bridge/crown is prepared in the lab and takes earliest 4 to 5 days or 1 week to arrive

We have a Trios 3 scanner, which is the best and most accurate scanner in the world. So your measurements are more accurate and we get the work faster.

8) Precautions

  • After the crown or bridge is fixed patient is asked not to eat or drink anything for 1 hour.
  • Avoid eating anything extremely hard like chikki etc
  • Avoid sticky food items like chewing gum, sticky chocolates etc
  • In case you have eaten something sticky and the cap gets dislodged. It can be fixed within 1 to 2 days or decided by looking at the condition of the tooth. Remember not to throw away the cap. Please visit us and we will fix it for you without any charge. But visit the clinic within a few days or else the gum grows around the tooth and the cap might not fit.

9) Problems that arise if you don’t replace the missing tooth:

Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into empty spaces, which may result in a bad bite

Dental bridges or dental implants offer the best means of improving smiles by filling in gaps or replacing missing teeth.

Missing teeth can cause a change in occlusion (bite), shifting of the teeth, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), speech impediments, an increased risk for periodontal disease and a greater chance of tooth decay.

10) Smile designing

Smile designing is the art of giving you a beautiful smile. We recommend using full ceramic crowns or veneers for your front teeth.

Advantages of Zirconia or full ceramic crowns

  • They are metal-free crowns
  • They are very aesthetically pleasing as well as have good strength.
  • They can be customized in the exact shape and colour of your other teeth, therefore giving a very natural look.
  • They are as strong as natural teeth
  • No worry of the ceramic chipping off and exposing the metal.
  • No black metal line near the gums

Temporary Crowns

  • They are tooth-shaped crowns given temporarily till the final cap is fixed.
  • They are best used in cases like:
    - Teeth that are vital to prevent sensitivity
    - Anterior/ Front Teeth
    - After front tooth extraction
    - If you have an event and don't want your smile to look bad
  • They are not for functional purpose but only for aesthetic purpose
